I'm going to play with the neon light and the scanner today to see what happens. Pity that all scanners don't have the backlight feature.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Wed, 26 Nov 2008 02:33:29 +0000 Re: 35mm slideshttps://billusia.runboard.com/p229911,from=rss#post229911https://billusia.runboard.com/p229911,from=rss#post229911If they are slides, then they really are not negative even though they look dark before you shine a light through them. Photoshop can invert positive to negative and back again but that's not what you need.nondisclosed_email@example.com (SKOKEY)Wed, 26 Nov 2008 00:08:08 +0000 Re: 35mm slideshttps://billusia.runboard.com/p229909,from=rss#post229909https://billusia.runboard.com/p229909,from=rss#post229909I've tried using a neon light with a diffuser (a Tupperware lid works quite well), it does seem to work, especially if you use a long one, if you have a direct light you get the light and not the picture. I'll mess around with them again as I have time. I was hoping for some magic Photoshop trick that would be able to convert the negative into a positive, it doesn't work, just converts the pic into a white block.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Tue, 25 Nov 2008 18:40:44 +0000 Re: 3mm slideshttps://billusia.runboard.com/p229906,from=rss#post229906https://billusia.runboard.com/p229906,from=rss#post229906My scanner has a built-in slide/negative scanner in the lid of the thing. I think Lesa tried a similar back lighting technique but didn't get good results. You would need a bright light with a good diffuser between the light and the slides. Without a good diffuser, you will get a bright spot in the picture. I think that taking pictures of a projection will dull any vibrant colors.nondisclosed_email@example.com (SKOKEY)Tue, 25 Nov 2008 17:16:32 +0000 35mm slideshttps://billusia.runboard.com/p229905,from=rss#post229905https://billusia.runboard.com/p229905,from=rss#post229905You know those stupid slides that your parents had made of photographs because they were cheaper than prints and that they used to bore you and any unsuspecting visitors with? Well my Giv has brought home almost 200 of these bloody things for me to scan and turn into digital pics. OMG. I've tried messing with Photoshop and my scanner but all I get is a dark blue image in which I can make out what the picture is but little else. So here's a challenge for you clever people. Is there a way I can do this without having to either buy a gadget that will do it for me or borrow a projector and then take pictures of the projected image, not a good choice because they will not be good shots. I really don't want pictures of people I don't know or care about filling up hard drive space but there are some really good scenery shots of Europe among that lot. Any suggestions?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Tue, 25 Nov 2008 16:45:16 +0000
