That's a brilliant idea.

Just one thing though, I've seen other boards that have that feature, when your picture is too big, it places a scroll bar around the picture, so that you see a portion of the image but you can scroll up and down and across the image to see more of it.

It would be a great feature, especially for people who don't understand about picture hosting sites and how to get and paste the code from those sites.

ImageShack has a nice desktop uploader that puts your image from your desktop into your ImageShack folder, and then after it's done, it gives you various code options to use.

I've started using that because it's useful and then I keep only the img part of the code.

Hi Morwen,

I think im correct in saying that if and when this gets the green light then the picture size uploaded to postimage can have a limit added in to the code so no one then can insert a over sized picture which exceeds the borders of the board.
Postimage's current options for this are for anyone to choose a pic from their pc then once the upload button is clicked the bbcode is added automatically,then just click the preview button here and the image will be displayed.
If you upload to postimage outside of this option, just like photobucket or imageshack then a choice of four coded links get offered, two bbcodes's, a HTML, plus a direct link to image code.

Thankfully uploading images and adding the code on to the boards isn't too difficult, and most pick it up straight away but those who dont speak a lot of English can struggle or even decide not to bother which could be a loss all round really, so at least this option will take the hassle away for them, plus the other alternative methods are still there for anyone using different image hosting sites.

Was very glad to see so much positive input towards this anyways, and many thanks to Pastor Rick for the nods of approval plus also to Skipster, [who is the boss over on our board and yep, shares the same first name as me emoticon ] for the additional info and of course Lesigner Girl emoticon for the excellent help and advice so far given in hopefully getting this implemented.

The reason you can't get it working on your own is because it requires javascript, which board owners/admins can't add for security reasons.

Both myself and the other Scott knew about the java barrier but were secretly hoping i guess there was a way around it via the custom language set.
But emoticon as we've now discovered, nope, and following many, many, many, many.........stubborn attempts trying, using 2000 assorted different, variations of codes, and scouring every corner of the www for a solution, all we managed to achieve was high blood pressure, a link to open a new tab on to the postimage site, and both of us looking like the picture below emoticon

Image

other than that, not to much else unfortunatlyemoticon

So will just eagerly await Thor to return from his holiday now and see what happens emoticon

So many thanks again

Scott (the UK one)

Re: Uploading images directly from the board.

@ Morwen Oronor: We currently have an Imageshack uploader integrated into our board and I personally use Imageshack and I like it (personally I hate Photobucket btw Scotty) but the issue has been people carrying over the wrong code option, no matter how many times I post a picture tutorial on which one to use. As far as the scroll bars are concerned I still feel that a picture should be sized to fit a common screen size. A 2400 pixel wide picture is nice but you can't see the whole thing in one shot what's the point. That's why I like the Postimage thumbnail option. Click the thumbnail, let your browser resize it to fit and if you want you can click it open to full size.

@ scarru: Well I did like the thrill of the chase concerning integrating Postimage into the forum but it's been obvious for a while that it wasn't going to work under the no Javascript rule. At least we got it to open in a new tab and accept an upload. We still have that as the B option. Thanks again for your help.

@ LesignerGirl et al: I took a stab at digging up a cached version of the Postimage enabled forum I spoke of at the WebArchive but as I suspected the relevant pages weren't archived as they were password protected. Once you see it in action you'll love it.

As a board admin, you can limit the width of posted images with CSS.

.postlistpostbody img {
   max-width: 600px;
   width: expression(this.width > 600 ? 600: true);
}

The expression(this.width...) part won't validate, but it's necessary for IE6 and earlier.

You're very welcome, Scott. emoticon I agree that it will be extremely helpful if we can offer a way for people to upload images and have them automatically inserted into posts, without people having to figure out which code to copy and paste.

You're welcome, MO. You can add size restriction now if you want, since that's completely unrelated.

Hi again Lesa emoticon emoticon

So sorry to trouble you, and I know you and Thor have both been very at present what with the newly added runboard features, emoticon
and really appreciate as well all your help and assistance you gave with this emoticon emoticon

So really hope you dont mind me inquiring but was wondering if there is any new news regarding the image featureImage
be it good or bad ImageImage

Certainly not in any rush to implicate it as i fully understand how long these things can take to set up properly so no worries there emoticon and was just curious really to if a decision had been reached emoticon

Many thanks again Lesa for all your time and help

All the best

Scott emoticon

Hi Scott, emoticon

You're no trouble at all. Sometimes it helps to have a kick in the butt.
I'm glad you like the new features, and thank you for saying so. I can't get over all the changes we've made (see my old profile), and we still have a lot more to do.

I checked into Postimage, and discovered that they advertise another message board provider exclusively, so I started looking around for other options. I haven't had any luck so far, but there has to be one out there somewhere. When I find it, I'll do my best to get it implemented.
