Animated png, another reason to love Firefox

Image

Too bad this doesn't work in IE, Safari, Maxthon, or Opera Mobile (which also has other problems), Chrome will only do it with an add-on, Android devices will only do it with Firefox, and iOS devices require a 3rd party library.

Come one, software developers! Start supporting animated png! Firefox has been supporting it since 2008!

There's a little glitch in that one but it's wicked cool. Maybe the glitch is because I have an outdated Firefox? I can't update unless I update my mac os too.

Wicked cool is a good description. emoticon

How old is your OS? I don't see a glitch in my FF. Do you have a current version of Opera? Their mobile browser won't show it, but it works in Opera on my laptop.

Firefox 3.6 and Mac OS 10.4.11

This OS has to be at least 6 years old, I don't remember for sure. I don't have Opera installed.

Excellent memory! emoticon

http://apple.wikia.com/wiki/Mac_OS_X_10.4#toc

Mac OS X 10.4.11 (released November 14, 2007)

I didn't even realize OSX was that old, but the first version is almost as old as Windows 98. emoticon

Even so, it's not fair that Firefox works on XP, which was around between 2001–2005, but not a Mac OS that was first released 2 years after XP was discontinued. Even Microsoft made IE9 backwards-compatible for Vista, which was discontinued in 2008!

Then again, maybe that's one of the reasons why IE is always behind the times...

Anyway, it looks like the highest you can go with Opera is version 11, if you have an Intel-based system. I'm actually surprised I was never prompted to upgrade mine, because I'm running 12.5 and 15 is the current one. emoticon

Edit: When I told Opera to check for updates, it told me 12.6 is the newest one. I think it's time for a beer. emoticon

Edit again: The fact that Firefox 3.6 can display the animation, despite it being glitchy, is still better than IE10 not being able to do it at all. emoticon

Re:

The glitch is when the ball hits bottom, there a tiny red bar and blue bar that appears just above the ball.
Image

Actually, now that I see it in freeze frame, it's a red/yellow/blue slice part way down the ball.

That's weird, but I guess if Firefox 3.6 does that, it's no wonder IE doesn't support it at all. emoticon

I still remember waiting for IE to support png opacity. It seemed like it took an eternity for that to happen, and I fear that it might take them another eternity to do animated pngs. emoticon
