Anyone have experience with Blogger? Is it typical for it to trash your page graphics quality and color? backgrounds and banners look like crap and colors don't match.

Re: Blogger
I'm barely familiar with it as a visitor who has posted a few comments, so I don't have that kind of experience with them. I've never heard of a site changing the colors of images when they're uploaded, but I've seen a lot that will compress images way too much. Does it look like they're indexing the colors to compress the image? How big is the file size before and after uploading? If you're using png, I wonder if running them through tinypng.org would help.

Yes, the compression is horrible and I think it is indexing the colors. It is uploaded as .jpg - I'll try .png - my file size is just below what they asked for, under 300KB.

Re: Blogger
I hope that will work. There's no telling what a site might do to your image when you upload it. I'm pretty sure Facebook converts every image to jpg, although I would expect Blogger to keep the original format, since they'd have to expect some people to want transparent backgrounds, etc.

Re:
Using .png, setting it to 256 colors, and reducing the file size worked. My old browsers are not compatible with tinypng but I could do it with ImageReady. The quality is still pretty decent and the colors are much closer to my originals. Thanks for the tip.

Re:
Now it's twitter that's pissing me off. The only text color for the header is white and to compensate for light header images, they apply a gray gradient that gets darker at the bottom where the text is. There's no way you can have a light image with dark text. I even tried putting a dark area on the image where the text is, hoping it would figure out that it didn't need the gradient but it adds it anyway.

Dang, you're right. That's stupid. They let you change the link color, but not the text color.
I never noticed this before, but FB does the same thing with the cover.

Damn it! That's going to mess up the plan I had for the facebook cover and integrating it with the profile pic. Now I'll have to apply a gradient to the propic to match the cover. Well, at least now it won't be a surprise. Thanks again.

Update - I think I might be in the clear, at least for a while. It doesn't look like facebook does that to public pages which is what I'm designing for.
