Re: Jon Stewart: Race/Off

I can honestly say, that I am no expert on anything.

As soon as I read that, my first thought was, "But you're an expert on taking pictures and helping people and animals!" Not that people aren't animals, of course...

So when someone is recounting something to me, I try to view whatever it was through their eyes. My experience has been the same as yours. People in different places can and do view the same things, such as race, sex, gun right, religion...etc. in different ways, because of their upbringing.
Each of us sees the world around us though our own eyes, feels it with our own hearts and forms our own opinions because of this.

Exactly! Trying to see it through their eyes is the best we can ever do. Sometimes we can empathize to an extent, but we can never truly know exactly how anyone else experiences anything, because the combination of one person's past experiences is always different from the next person's.

I believe we must because that is the reason for my Path....to do the best I can, for as many as I can, for as long as I can.

And I want to help make the world a better place for everyone. None of us can do it on our own, but many voices speaking out in unison can have a huge impact.

But that is just it....I'm not an expert. I'm a total amateur, who is learning, on all accounts. I don't believe one can ever be the perfect expert on anything. Yes, you can be one person who knows a lot about something, but the perfect "expert"...can't happen. Because as long as we are living, we are constantly learning. And as long as we are learning, we are not 'expert'.

I loved that hippo...someone said. "Why are you making fun of your Path?"
DUH! If one can't laugh at ones self, one has a huge problem! emoticon

You are an expert at knowing that nobody can possibly know everything there is to know about anything. emoticon And as you know, the first step to gaining wisdom is to realize that we don't already know everything. emoticon

Did you know that whales, dolphins, and porpoises are the closest living relatives to hippos? emoticon

The evolution of whales (which includes dolphins and porpoises, just like apes include humans and chimps) is fascinating. They actually come from aquatic animals, which evolved into land animals, which evolved into aquatic animals. If you look at a whale skeleton, they have vestigial hip bones, and their fin bones are like hands. Five weeks into development, whale fetuses have visible hind limb buds, just as human fetuses have tails. In fact, if you were to show most pro-lifers a 5-week-old spotted dolphin fetus and a 5-week-old human fetus and asked them which one was the human, they would probably pick the wrong one most of the time.

AWESOME.... emoticon I have seen human fetus' with the tail and had a rather interesting discussion in the waiting room, of my OB/GYN mind you, over the fact that it was indeed a human fetus. The other lady would not accept that....finally had the receptionist confirm it.
My next visit....that particular "poster" was gone! emoticon

Would you happen to know if the other woman was anti-choice? I would guess that she probably was, because it seems that most people who are anti-choice are usually less knowledgeable about reproduction than those of us they try to argue against, and they are too stubborn to change their minds when presented with the facts. The same holds true for those who deny climate change and evolution, anti-vaxxers, 9/11 truthers, birthers, etc. They can be very stubborn in their ignorance.

But then you have the rare exception where an ignorant person actually does back down when presented with the facts. This argument went on for about 4 hours before an OB-GYN swooped in with one tweet to set him straight, and he hasn't been back for 2 days.

Can't say if she was or not....we got started talking because I sat down next to her and she pointed to that poster and said, "can you believe this place as that made up garbage on the walls?"

Nice come back on that argument....I was a little hesitant to click it...after you said this went on for 4 hours! emoticon

Anti-choice groups like to hand out dolls that look like miniature babies, to make people believe that's what aborted fetuses look like.

Image

Aww, how precious! Isn't it cute???

But in reality, something that size would look more like this:

Image

WTF is that thing? It's a blob in a bubble! And what's that purple thing on its stomach? Oh, that's in its stomach? But babies aren't transparent!

But... that's not real! It's, it's, it's trick photography! Yeah, that's it! A 10-week-old fetus looks like this!

Image

Just look at this angelic little rubber eraser. What kind of evil, atheistic, socialist, communist, fascist bastard would someone have to be to kill that sweet little thing?

In reality, most abortions occur in the embryonic stage, when it looks more like this:

Image

Is that..... Casper? emoticon Are anti-choice people really... pro... ghost? emoticon

Image

No, that's Jasper, my half brother.
His dad was pink, and had mouse turds for eyes.

A large percentage of aborted embryos even look like this!

Image

No, that's not a hammer-head shark. If allowed to grow, it will become a human. But at this stage, it's a far cry from this:

Image

Would it be worse to abort this?

Image

OMG! A spotted dolphin has legs and a penis? Yes, and it's more closely related to a hippo than it is to a fish. Pretty astonishing, huh?

Let's look at later abortions. 91.7% of all abortions are performed between 0 and 13 weeks. At 13 weeks, it looks like this:

Image

Look out, Casper!!!!! The brain from Arous is coming for you!!!!

Image

No, this guy isn't going to save you. He's just a myth, thank goodness. emoticon

Image

So anyway, let's go back to this miniature baby doll thing. Yeah. I like to keep posting it, because it's nothing but a big lie by the anti-choice forced-birthers.

Image

This is probably what that woman believed human embryos look like, rather than the thing on the poster that is an actual human embryo, but looks more like a hammerhead shark.emoticon

emoticon OH GEEZ! You need to be some kind of "Voice of Reason" blogger or something. SERIOUSLY....
Hell....had that lady seen that "hammerhead shark" (no, the poster was not that 'real' more a drawing closer to the rubber eraser kid, but more pronounce tail)....SHE would have had an abortion, simply because she would have thought her 'child' was an alien... emoticon
