Watching Fox doesn't automatically make someone ignorant or illogical. As I said, many people watch it just to see what kind of nonsense they're claiming that day. Fox is so bad, there is even a website called NewsHounds, whose tagline is, "We watch Fox so you don't have to." I had to Google that tagline, because I have only visited that site a couple of times years ago and couldn't remember the name.
Those who rely solely on Fox and other radical right-wing media outlets and automatically believe everything they say does raise cause for concern, because they are being fed a lot of misinformation and aren't getting the truth most of the time. When 2/3 of the information someone has is untrue, they could still come to a logical conclusion that is absolutely wrong because it's based on false premises.
Our actions are influenced by our beliefs, and our beliefs are influenced by the information we have. Some people are so stuck in their beliefs, that they refuse to believe anything that contradicts those beliefs. This can often be dangerous, not just to those who hold false beliefs, but also to their own children and complete strangers alike. Take anti-vaxxers, for example. Thanks to them, measles is making a comeback. This is why it's dangerous to just say, "Let people believe what they want to believe." Sure, some false beliefs can be harmless, but others can be very harmful.

Putin is an interesting and scary person. He is like a clone of old time Russia... back to the days no one wants to revisit. Russia is no longer the super power they once were but he is the type of 'leader' that could plunge the world into chaos. I have to admit, Russia fascinates me.. I would love to see it in person.

I know two men who originally came from Russia, and they're good guys. Putin is not so good, and I wish Russia had someone better leading them.

My traveller son has been there. He said that what struck him was how much it reminded him of parts of our country (the Free State where most of our basic foods are farmed): bleak, flat, boring. He said that there isn't much opulence on display and that the preservation of Lenin was a little freaky. He didn't enjoy it much. But he wanted to be able to say he'd been there, so he went. It also cost him a packet, because they messed up his return flight to Germany to come home so he was delayed on all his connecting flights and had to go via various different countries he didn't intend visiting.

Russia is now waging a propaganda war the like of which hasn't been on for 30 years. Lots of the comments coming from there sound absolutely absurd, but over there people actually believe some of it.
I believe majority of Russians know they are given least to say biased information, but at the same time they assume everything western medias say is as much a lie the other way round. (Which brings us back to Fox News...)
For example, for couple years now some rather high-level politicians and officials have been saying that in Finland and Scandinavia social authorities are taking children of Russian parents for no reason or with some absurd excuse and putting them to local families, apparently to keep our population from falling.
Yeah, we steal their children. It started from some custody battle between a Russian and a Finn, with our court deciding this way and has snowballed to this.
Btw, due migration Nordic countries have at no point had population going down, unlike Russia.

I had several Russian co-workers, I loved to listen to them when they spoke in Russian. My brother has been there too when he was still working with the Pentagon. K, Russia will not allow Americans to adopt Russian children. It's very sad, I saw a story where a family had plans to adopt a 14 year old boy who had spent his life in a Russian orphanage. They had been visiting for several years and right before he was supposed to be adopted Russia made it illegal.

MO, I know how it feels to be sent to a place you didn't intend to go, and I hope his experience wasn't any worse than the one I had in Düsseldorf, where I could have been mugged, raped, or even killed if my bullshit meter hadn't gone off about the guy who claimed to be a taxi driver. If anyone here doesn't already know that story, just ask, and I'll be happy to tell you.
K, not much surprises me these days, and it doesn't surprise me that Russians are fed that propaganda.
Bec, I agree that story is sad. Putin made it illegal for Americans to adopt Russian children in 2012, but I think it was in the works since about 2010 after a woman sent a 7-year-old back to Russia unaccompanied, saying he was mentally unstable. Before that, there were allegedly cases of Russian children dying in American homes. This might make it seem like he cares about Russian children, but it sounds like special needs children can be adopted by Americans, so Putin must not see special needs children as important enough to care about.
