MESSAGE BOX/posts/replies and scrolling smiley box

NEED to FIX existing problems and have design issues which is beyond my knowledge (which is zap,nada,zilch and all that lol) emoticon

*THE SEVERAL rows/LINES OF TEXT color with check boxes next to them UNDER preview and SUBMIT buttons (bbc,notifications,etc) is hidden...similar prob to my FORUM LIST names prob. when dragging mouse you can see text then only. ????
ALSO if you drag mouse all over this area you will see text...links that are not showing up...WOW when I goof I goof. One moment it was all there and I did something which cant remember and everything went POOF. emoticon

*BORDER around POSTICON BOX: how I got it from red to white..who knows?? Can this be RED border?

**SCROLLING SMILEY BOX:
top header/bar of design like what is at top of posticon box has disappeared. ????

ALSO would like RED BORDER around scrolling smily box.
I put the codes in/changed around as I read trying to be precise for scrolling smiley box...but is that a SCROLLING smiley box/table?
    have not added any of my own smilie as yet..first wanting to get this done right..and 2ndly hmmmmm need to locate the info that tells how I number them 1,2,3,4, and in a grid like I saw. Ihave written down smileys and ready to plan out the sized in rows as I saw..so box is neat with same sized accordingly...tho where that info was it did not say HOW one puts this info somewhere to come out like your smiley scrolling box WITH black background and RED borders..for my design look.

ON THIS REPLY PAGE..there are TWO Borders/frames..one inside the other...and then my logo banner behind that....

I want the message where you tupe in with smileys/posticons with my guitar background for typing in..left with its blackbackground with red border..
BUT how or can one...set a background image/or background color if wanted in the other bordered boxed/framed area larger..which encompases the writing area? and where would I find the code that sets those values?
THEN There is the larger area where MY LOGO BANNER IS.....IF I wanted to...could there be an image in there..which I dont want at this time..but curious how all these areas can be tweaked for design purposes if ever wanting to.

RE:MY BANNER/LOGO on top of THE MESSAGE/NEW TOPIC/REPLY page as you see....CAN I ADJUST the SIZE OF MY BANNER...for THIS AREA of posting/reply only...and NOT changing size of my BANNER On MAIN PAGE??
I'd like to try scaling it down some..and see how it looks

**OH OH OH...One other point..when I go to the mai page and then click the link of a forum..tho others cant see that colored link....Then one goes to another page....where the colored LINKS of posts are also..not showing...NEEDS TO BE FIXED TO SEE
and THEN when clicking to see the POSTS of others...
is that the way all should look design wise? in your opinion? I do like the posts separated..but is that area too large? you are the tasteful designer...
AND ALSO in my guiitarbackgound area where you see RED text...can I change THOSE colors of TEXT
(posters name and then below the red text of edit/delete/reply/quote without changing that text color if it applies somewhere else? Just think that color red..might look better another color...in the write message section...and seeing the posts on that page.

oooooooooooooo I am sorry if I am a pest! with my design needs and all. AM so appreciative

ooooooh and then if I can get that ALL done...phew I will be happy boardowner camper for now...hahaha

THANKS for HELP In advance.

Use the link I provided in my other reply to validate your CSS and fix the errors. You have a few "parse errors," which will cause the valid CSS that comes after them to not work as they should.

Once you fix the errors, we can go from there. emoticon

The important thing is these types of errors "will cause the valid CSS that comes after them to not work as they should." emoticon If the validator turns up a parse error, then just know that it's not an error you can ignore.

You can, however, ignore the errors it gives for your scrollbar colors, which I forgot to mention in my other post. Since scrollbar colors only work in IE and in no other browsers, it is technically considered invalid code, but it's not going to hurt anything to keep it there.

Parse errors, on the other hand, must always be fixed, because one parse error can stop the rest of your CSS dead in its tracks.

Your parse errors.

NOW in post reply page:

It will only scroll when you have enough smileys to scroll. emoticon

Dots, #'s, and semi-colons. The validator will point the missing #'s and semi-colons out to you, but it won't show you where you are missing your dots. Luckily those missing dots should be easy to spot, since they are missing before classnames, which would put them at the very beginning of the line.

Fancy use of CSS and that extra <body> tag I told you not to use unless we specifically tell you to. After you fix your parse errors, I'll be happy to help you with that. But any code I give you right now may or may not work because of those existing parse errors.

THANKS SO MUCH...and for your patience as well

You're very welcome, but fix those parse errors. You don't have to know what "parse error" means, but you do need to know that one parse error will cause a lot of your other CSS to not work. The validator will tell you where the parse errors are and what needs to be done to fix them. I also gave an explanation about some of your missing semi-colons in my other reply.

If you have any questions about a specific error message, feel free to post it here, making sure to include the line number and exact error message. Do not add any more CSS in the meantime, otherwise the line number will change and there will probably be new errors added to the old ones to top it all off. emoticon

Even if you don't know the "commands" involved in CSS, it really helps to understand the format. For example, I never really got into writing javascript because I knew of its limitations, but a few years ago I ended up inheriting a website from some so-called professional who used javascript to make sure required fields were filled in on a form mail. Being the thorough tester I am, I changed the email recipient of this form to my address and tested it out. Although I was taken to the "thank you" page after submitting the form, I did not receive the email that was supposed to be sent. So I disabled javascript, submitted the form again, and it sent just fine. This told me that it was not the mail script itself, but the javascript that was causing the problem. The next step was to go through this code that was somewhat foreign to me, and it turned out that the "commands" were fine. The only problem in the code was that it was missing an end } bracket. Once I put that in and tried the form again, it worked.

I didn't have to know the exact commands to figure it out, but the simple logic behind its structure. This is what helped me solve the problem.

So the moral of the story is, when you make changes to your CSS, just make sure it follows this structure, with all the punctuation that I bolded in red here:

.classname {
    attribute: definition;
}

The dot says, "This word I'm defining is a class name." The { says, "I'm going to start with the definitions now." The colon (:) says, "That was the attribute, and I'm going to define that attribute now." The semi-colon (;) says, "I'm done with that definition." Then you can either go on to add more attribute definitions, or you can close it off with a } that says, "Ok, I'm done defining that classname."

When you omit this punctuation or add it where it doesn't belong, that is when you end up with the dreaded parse error.

.bob {
    eyes: blue; hair: blonde; build: muscular;
}
.sally {
    eyes: brown hair: red; build: heavy;
}
.jane {
    eyes: brown; hair: brown; build: slim;
}

"WTF? emoticon Are Sally's eyes "brown hair," or is Sally's "brown hair" red? Is "brown hair" supposed to define Sally's eyes, or is red supposed to define Sally's "brown hair"? Eyes can not be "brown hair," and "brown hair" can't be red! This does not compute! Screw this! I give up!"

Poor Jane is going to be invisible now, because we confused the CSS parser too much for it to continue.

I hope this is all much clearer now.
