Re: Windows 7??
Thanks, Moose!
When I bought my computer last August, I specifically looked for one that has XP (which I found), due to all the bad things I've heard about Vista. If there isn't a vast improvement with the new Windows, Microsoft just might lose a lot of people to Mac and Linux.

I run Windows on my Mac for one reason only.
Smiley Central doesn't have a Mac facility.

Re: Windows 7??
Windows7 is layout-wise looking the very same as Vista, which isnt a big surprise
The layout in itself is in some areas very different from XP, but Vista users should feel right at home with this one.
It comes with IE8, which is probably one of the worst browser available today
Lack of support and compability with webdesign is what makes it crappy, but I suspect it will be further upgraded in the future.
There are a few neat tools pre-installed in Win7 that are easily accessed from the main startmenu, a great plus
I visited the Windows Update site, to check for updates, and there was one update available, for my USB keyboard. Goodie
Win7 also created a restore point before installing the mew driver. Goodie again
This way you can roll back if it messes up
BUT, it is quite tiresome if it makes a restore point every time there is a new update.
There should be an option for the user to decide IF a restore point should be created.
This made the single driver update take an awful long time to finish
It also comes with a build-in action center that I found very nice. It tells you what you are missing and where to get it, in a single click. Neat :yes
You also have something called Windows Defender which helps you protect your PC, and scan it for errors at your command.
I have no idea how good these options really are until the full version is released, but I guess they will be a good thing to have.
Else it is quite easy to navigate for the common user, and you can configure your own layout very easy, colors, icon sizes, text size and so on.
It also works great on network. I had no troubles implementing the computer into our network. I got my network drives and could install printers pretty easy.
It do lack some support on certain drivers and older versions of stuff, but that will probably be ok when it gets released.
One thing that doesnt work at the moment, is the windows media player.
When I tried to run a small video, the computer froze. This will also most certainly be fixed
So, in short, I like the layout ( which I also did on Vista ), but it remains to be seen how much memory it eats up when fully installed.
It looks very promising so far, I must say
It is also smaller in size than Vista, and lets hope they manage to keep it that way....
It should be interesting following up on this OS

Re: Windows 7??
The size of the Beta version is about 2.6G
Vista Ultimate version is around 8G (!!!)
Thank you for the review, Moose!
You're welcome
I tried it on a laptop the other day, but it doesnt recognize any wireless connections, yet
If it has the look of vista, the speed of ubuntu, and the compatibility of xp, then they can sell me Win7

Re: Windows 7??
Strange, I normally get an invite to test Windows products but didn't even know this was in the works! I wonder if MS is so hacked off with the last beta group that they decided not to go that way this time hmmmm...

Re: Windows 7??
I found out a couple of weeks ago from a co-worker, who said he expects it to be better than Vista. As bad as Vista sounds, though, that's not saying much.
