Runboard problems

Lesa, the problem I'm having with posting. I'm using Safari now, and just refreshing after I've made posts. That seems to work.
At least I'm able to post on the boards. I'd be a little upset if it didn't work at all.
Safari isn't as nice to use as Firefox but I'm not going to log out of it and try Firefox again. Rather not risk it all going wrong again.
Just so you know, if I go missing again, that this is the problem I'm trying to deal with. It's definitely not anything to do with my computers because this morning at the movies, while I was waiting for the film to start, I went to look at Anything Goes on my cellphone, and it also had the problem. So I think there's something between our main ISP and Europe. It could be because of the new fibre optic cables that they're installing around the country. I don't know enough about the technicalities but for now at least, this seems to be working.
Sorry about bothering you with it.

No need to apologize, MO. I completely understand your frustration, and only wish I had a solution to the problem.

It baffled me when Petal had that problem, and it still baffles me. I don't understand how one machine can suddenly start having problems with only one site but not others, while another machine using the same ISP... or even a different browser on the same computer... can have little or no problems with the aforementioned site. I'm glad Safari is working for you though, and I hope you're able to use Firefox on Runboard again soon, as well.

Re: Runboard problems

I possibly could go back to Firefox but now having successfully logged in I'm a little nervous to log out on this browser again to log in on Firefox. This one also makes the pages look different so it's not my first choice.
For instance to see your last post, I had to refresh the page twice.
When I first go to the site I have on my toolbar, it shows it as it was when I left, I refresh and then the 'new' all show up. When I click on the 'new' links, sometimes I see the new posts, other times I have to refresh again before I can see which thread has the new post and then again to read the new post. But at least now I can see my posts after I've done them and I can access my control panel, which I couldn't do yesterday. I'm sure it will work itself out, I'm convinced it's something to do with the new telephone links to Europe. I really don't know and I'm fishing for reasons here. But it's ok now, at least the frustration level is a lot lower than it was when it first happened.

I don't blame you for being nervous about switching browsers when you've got one of them working. I assume it doesn't matter which screen name you're logged into, though? You can log in to a different account through Firefox while you're still logged into yours through Safari.

But, as long as you are having to refresh pages in Safari, I doubt it will work at all in the other browsers until the problem works itself out.

Re: Runboard problems

The problem is worse in Firefox. I did log in there this morning using my detective ID. I have to 'refresh' twice in Firefox but only once in Safari. So I'll leave my own ID in Safari and use Firefox only when I want to play detective games with the other ID.
I spoke to John about it yesterday. He says that it is a cache problem and the problem is somewhere along the line from my router to Runboard's server. And because we use various servers along the way (we don't link direct from our ISP to the server), it could be any of the links between me and Runboard.
Possibly the problem will resolve once the whole fibre-optic installation is done and the fast connection is running properly. In the meantime I just refresh, again and again.

It's definitely a cache issue, but the problem is figuring out where it is.

It can't be your browser's cache, since the problem started suddenly with every machine you use, including your mobile. If it's your ISP's cache, I wouldn't expect refreshing or even hard refreshing to work at all, because this won't clear your ISP's cache. The same goes for any connection between your router and Runboard, since none of this has anything to do with your browser, which is all that should be affected with a refresh or hard refresh. This is what boggles me.

It's very odd. But I've found a way around it now and I'm leaving it like that until someone comes up with a solution.

It seems like I'm destined to have endless trouble with this cache thing. Now it's on Photobucket as well.
Also I can't get into this board with Safari, so I've had to log in with Firefox and do the double-refresh thing.
Oy! it seems like trouble just goes looking for me!

I'm just glad you were able to get in, and hope your ISP or whoever it is will sort the problem out soon, before you pull out all your hair. emoticon
