An external hard drive problem
Skokey might have some ideas about this one here.
One of my external hard drives has developed a problem. It won't mount on the desk top. The Mac can see it in the 'Profiler' and when I put it through 'verify' in the disk utility, it says that there are no problems with it, but it won't mount. Is there anything else you can suggest I try before I format it?
I don't want to lose everything (like my entire music library) if there is something else I can do.
I managed to update the backup of my music library from my IPod last night but I'm sure there are still some songs missing so I would prefer not to wipe it out also I have some home movies I'm going to lose if I format that drive.
So you can see my dilemma.

Re: An external hard drive problem
OK I downloaded some software that could scan the drive - it simply wouldn't mount and to get a program to recover the data was $99, the same price as a new drive, or even more. I've just written off the data I've lost, not too much, a few songs and music videos mostly. Then I simply formatted the drive.
I have to backup all my stuff, music movies, home movies, photos etc. If my computer got stolen, I'd be totally lost. I can then lock the backup away so if the computer's stolen, my data won't be lost.
