Why we are becoming an idiocracy
The people who run President Obama's Facebook page put an image up in remembrance of Hurricane Sandy. Here was one of the comments:
For the vision-impaired, it says, "Just lije[sic] Hurricane Sandy and Katrina, everything that Obama touches is a disaster."
Katrina was in 2005. George W. Bush was president at the time, and Barack Obama was serving his first year in the Illinois senate. An Illinois senator has nothing to do with Louisiana, and the point in Illinois that is closest to New Orleans where the most devastation occurred because the levies couldn't handle it is about 560 miles away. Why, in, the, hell, would this idiot believe Obama had anything at all to do with Katrina?
This is why our country is going down the !@#$. These idiots vote.

My son has always held the opinion that there should be an IQ test for voters. Under a certain IQ level can NOT vote. Not a bad idea, would never fly...discrimination against dimwits, ya know.
Perhaps there should be an IQ test before couples are allowed to breed.
But we definitely need to dump some Bleach into the gene pool.

Re: Why we are becoming an idiocracy
@Skokey
I've actually seen some people online state the belief that Obama and/or his administration caused Hurricane Sandy, or at least redirected it to hit where it did. How these people know how to use a computer to post that stuff is beyond me.
@Queeny
I agree, there should be a test for people to pass before they can vote. It doesn't even have to be a difficult one, but one that shows at least some ability to use logic and a general understanding of some basic principals, and it could all be true/false and multiple choice.
Question 1:
True or false: Canada is part of the United States.
a) True
b) False
Question 2:
Which of these statements is true?
a) The earth orbits around the sun, and the moon orbits around the earth.
b) The sun and moon both orbit around the earth.
Question 3:
Our planet is shaped like a:
a) flat square
b) flat circle
c) ball
Question 4:
True or false: If we write laws that favor Christianity, and promote Christianity in public schools and other government establishments, this will help ensure everyone's freedom of religion in America.
a) True
b) False
Question 5:
True or false: According to the theory of evolution, a gorilla can give birth to a human baby.
a) True
b) False
Question 6:
True or false: Everyone on welfare is lazy.
a) True
b) False
Question 7:
True or false: All terrorists are Muslims.
a) True
b) False

Re: Why we are becoming an idiocracy
I was just thinking. The questions could be posted online, in voting centers, at the DMV, in libraries, schools, and other places, and kept available for a full year before someone would need to register to vote in the next election. This list would not supply the answers, and the multiple choices should be in a different order for the actual test, but people would have plenty of time to look anything up that they don't know, and it would be up to them to determine which sources are credible. If they choose a bad source, too bad, so sad, try again next year.
There could be a total of 50 questions, but only 10 on each test, and there could be several different versions of this test so it would be harder for someone to help someone else cheat after they know their own score.
The idea is to weed out those who are out of touch with reality, not penalize bright but under-educated people who had to drop out of school at 16 to help support their families, and I think this might be a good way to accomplish that.

Re: Why we are becoming an idiocracy
Yes! That one definitely needs to be in the test! I don't hear that one in my own personal experience because NM doesn't come up often in conversation, but I've read that so many times on sites like notalwaysright.com and notalwaysworking.com, and it's amazing how these idiots won't even believe it's one of our states even after they've been corrected.
Next time someone says that to you, ask them where New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire are located.

Re: Why we are becoming an idiocracy
Letting them wallow in their ignorance, huh?
I'd probably be more like this:
Them: OMG! How could you live in a foreign country for so long?
Me: No, no, Newwww Mexico, not Mexico.
Of course, that question could be taken a couple of different ways. They could be impressed because they believe you had to learn a different language or make do with not knowing it, or they might like your sense of adventure in traveling to different countries. Or, they could believe it's not befitting of a True American™ to live in a 'foreign' country. If it's obviously the latter, my response might be a little more like this:
No, no, Newwww Mexico, not Mexico. You know, it's like how New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire are all part of the United States, and not in some 'foreign' countries called York, Jersey, or Hampshire. Did you flunk geography or something? Did you even pass middle school?
